The marathon, and the 10 k

Every year, I get myself into this predicament.  All kinds of marking, and only so many hours in the day.  Yes, it will all get done, because I’m a professional and that’s my job.  But May is an exhausting slog.  I always have to bribe myself, you know?  Something to keep me going till the other side.  This year, I’ve got my eyes firmly fixed on the last weekend of June.  That’s the carrot at the end of the stick.

I can do this.  I always do.  It’s a marathon, and I run it every year.

Meanwhile, part of what’s ailing me is an overall malaise.  Feeling like a slug does not help you to focus.  So I signed up for a 10k, part of the Marathon by the Sea races in August.  Some days are easier than others, but you know it feels really good to be moving again.

Yes, I am aware of the irony that I’m using a 10k to get me through a marathon.
